“She simply called me and said, ‘Mom, they’re capturing. I ran into the concession stand,’” Hurd stated. “So I’m like, ‘OK, I’m on my method up there.’ Like, I’m nervous. I don’t know what’s going on.”
When she arrived on the school, Hurd waited two hours to be reunited along with her daughter. While thankful she’s bodily nice, she doesn’t want to chance it taking place again.
“So what I’m feeling is scared to let her go to anything else,” Hurd mentioned. “Because this is happening all around the world. It’s not simply happening in Utica. It’s happening all over the place.”
The day before, giant fights broke out at a highschool football recreation in Buffalo to the point the place the game was stopped and several folks have been arrested.
Hurd believes extra security measures have to be taken at all times.

The incidents have led to extra controversy surrounding the state’s Raise the Age legislation.
In 2018, New York moved the age of grownup criminal accountability to 18 years old from 16. On Tuesday, state lawmakers stated Raise the Age should be modified to clearly define which circumstances juveniles could be held in household court docket versus felony courtroom.
“The major premise of Raise the Age was about incarceration,” Oneida County Executive Anthony Picente Jr. stated on Tuesday. “Not placing younger people in with hardened criminals of older standing, older age. It’s not to absolve them of the crimes they’re committing.”
“I don’t assume that a 16-year-old with a gun, coming purposely to a recreation with a gun, ought to get a slap on the wrist in family court docket,” she said. “That I don’t as a result of if we maintain doing that, they’re gonna maintain considering that they will get a slap on the wrist, they usually can come back out and do this once more.”
Hurd is grateful Jeff Lynch, the safety guard who was shot, is OK, whereas so many people try to keep away from a similar incident.
“It does my heart good to see so many various communities and totally different agencies making an attempt to do the best that they can,” Hurd stated.
